Activating Your License Key
This guide covers the full process of activating your NotedWP license, from entering the key to verifying your tier.
Step-by-Step Activation
- Go to Noted > Settings > License in the WordPress admin.
- Paste your license key into the input field.
- Click Activate License.
- Wait a few seconds while NotedWP communicates with the update server.
Successful Activation
When activation succeeds, the License tab displays three pieces of information.
- Tier name: Pro or Agency, confirming which plan is active.
- Expiry date: The date your current subscription period ends.
- Site URL: The URL that was registered for this activation slot.
Your key is shown in a masked format (only the last four characters are visible) for security.
Error States
If activation fails, one of the following messages appears.
Invalid Key
The key you entered does not match any active license. Double-check for typos or extra whitespace. If you copied the key from an email, make sure you grabbed the entire string.
Activation Limit Reached
Your license has already been activated on the maximum number of sites. Deactivate an existing site first, then try again. See Managing Site Activations for instructions.
Network Error
NotedWP could not reach the update server. Check your site’s outbound connectivity. If your hosting environment blocks external HTTP requests, you may need to whitelist updates.notedwp.com.
Refreshing License Status
Click Refresh Status on the License tab to re-check your license with the update server. This is useful if you renewed your subscription or changed your plan and want the plugin to reflect the update immediately.
Deactivating Your License
Click Deactivate License on the License tab to release this site’s activation slot. After deactivation, the plugin reverts to the free tier and the slot becomes available for use on another site.
If you deactivate the NotedWP plugin entirely (via the WordPress Plugins page), deactivation is sent to the license server automatically. You do not need to deactivate the key manually before deactivating the plugin.
Key Storage
Your license key is stored in the WordPress database using AES-256-CBC encryption. It is never displayed in plain text after initial entry. The masked display shows only the last four characters of your key.
